Join us to improve how the Core Imaging Library (CIL) reads and reconstructs real-world CT datasets. We want to reach and support a wider range of CT scanners and make industrial and academic CT data easier to use with open-source tools. We would also like to build a library of example notebooks showcasing the use of each reader on open-access CT datasets.
Hackathon agenda:

Sign Up or Ask Questions:
- e-mail us at tomography@stfc.ac.uk
- Funding is available for transport, food, and accommodation
Focus Areas:
- Integrate community contributed readers:
- TESCAN, Waygate, gVXR, RX Solutions
- If you already use a reader with CIL, please consider contributing it!
- Add new readers for micro-CT systems:
- Bruker, NSI, Diondo
- Improve support for facility formats:
- NeXuS, HDF5, IMAT CSV
- Create example notebooks for open-access datasets using our new readers as well as our Nikon and Zeiss readers
Who Should Join:
We welcome contributors with experience in Python, CIL, or CT data formats. You can help by:
- Contributing a reader and test dataset (preferably open access)
- Integrating or writing readers
- Creating example notebooks
Why Participate:
- Your code will be maintained and supported in CIL
- Gain hands-on experience with real CT data
- Support an open-source software project
- Join the CIL contributor community – Earn your CIL t-shirt or mug!
Event Details:
This will be a hybrid event with hubs at both Rutherford Appleton and Daresbury Laboratories.
On the day:
- We’ll start with an overview of current readers and demos in CIL
- Participants will share their interests and any open access data they have brought
- Organise into groups working on new readers and demos
- Throughout the event we’ll have regular updates from each group and members of the CIL team will be on hand to offer advice and support.
